Pirates of the Caribbean – On Strange Tides
Captain Jack Sparrow is back for the fourth instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, On strange Tides. This time is has been filmed in 3D, it does produce some good effects, but would be just as good in 2D.
In this film Captain Jack (Johnny Depp) is captured by Angelica (Penelope Cruz) on the legendary Blackbeard’s (Ian McShane) ship. The quest this time is for the Fountain of Eternal Youth. Also on the trail is the Spanish King Ferdinand and the English army who are being led by Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush).
In order for the fountains magic to work you have to complete a ritual which includes a mermaids tear. In this film you will see Mermaids in a whole new light. Syrena (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) is the mermaid who gets captured and Philip (Sam Calflin) the minister falls in love with.
If you liked the previous Pirates of the Caribbean then you will love this film. It is closer to the first film than the previously long film, At Worlds End. It’s uncomplicated and easy to follow. Johnny Depp brings the character alive with his unique voice and acting style. Penelope Cruz was pregnant during the filming and considering has done quite well for her first action movie, although some scenes she did look quite tired.
Overall it delivers what it promises, the effects are great and the attention detail in costumes, stunts and sets pay off. Fans will love this film. It seems they have an opening for a Pirates of the Caribbean 5 the way the film finished!
This is a FAB rated movie.
